Help!
The Syston & District Social Club is an essential part of the Syston community, hosting many adult and children's sport teams, clubs and classes during the week, as well as social hub for members and non-members alike during the week and weekends. Our regular events like quiz evenings, Karaoke's, open mic's, and live music becoming firm favourites for many. We also hold many charity events over the year.
Unfortunately we have had an couple of issues hit us like a steam train that unavoidably requires us to ask for financial assistance from our members and customers to help us keep the club comfortable and safe for all, and to obviously stop the place falling in around us!
Issue 1
Our roof has been a concern for a while and after closer inspection by drone it became apparent very quickly we had some very serious issues. This was compounded a short while ago with a roof coming down in our occupied flat due to water ingress, fortunately nobody was injured. (for reference our upstairs public function room is well away from this area and is a flat roof. This roof was re-laid only a few years ago so there are no safety concerns) To our horror we have found our insurance company will not pay for any external roof repairs leaving us to foot the bill. After a detailed inspection the quotation last stood at just over £8300 to make good and safe, excluding any 'additional' issues that may arise once work begins....
Issue 2
And then the boiler decides to give up! After many years of outstanding service, single handidly heating the bar, lounge, meeting room, skittles room, a two bed flat, office and our large function room, it decided it had had enough & has gone to boiler heaven. It would appear at some point in time the club would of had two boilers that as (supposedly?) one failed and two became one! How this was done is somewhat of mystery, even to the experts (!) but can only revealed, and more importantly, rectified and corrected once work commences. Many boards and panelling have been removed to find an answer but to no avail. Make no bones, this is quite a job of re-sizing water, gas and heating pipework, electrical work, and possibly unravel a host of additional problems along the way. The work may have to be done in two phases, with phase one costing close to £8000 and the closure of the club for up to a week as work begins. The hope is phase one will get a new boiler in and a partially working system as we then look at what remains to be done.
We have a few fundraising events planned over the coming months, but obviously this will not come close to getting the money we require. We acknowledge it's a huge amount to find, hence the reach for help! We trust the amount includes enough contingency to cover any additions that are sure to arise.
We hope you can help us reach our target and give generously to get the club roofed, safe, heated and comfortable again!
Thank you.
