A new startup primary school in Tafara, Zimbabwe

I am trying to raise money for a new school in Eastview, Tafara, one of the most deprived locations in Zimbabwe. New Dawn Rainbow Academy was formed by a group of 4 former Heads of School with a passion for education and more than 130 years of teaching experience put together. The school opened its doors in January 2023 and so far has grown from 4 to 10 students since the start of term.

The school needs money to:

Buy the essentials the children need such as furniture, books and other stationary.
Pay the few employees while the school settles in and is in the process of establishing other revenue funds
Pay for rent, building and grounds maintenance.
Marketing and advertisement to get more students and teachers.

The school is registered with the Zimbabwean educational board and the teachers currently working there are doing so at very little pay.

“It has been difficult and it is still difficult for me and my colleagues to run the school as we (4 of us) are all retirees with very little resources (financial or otherwise) to build the school on. However we have chosen to face the hardships to get the school running. We only have 10 children so far and each child is paying $35 per month. Meanwhile, our rent is $800. The premises has 10 rooms of various sizes enough for us to grow the school up to Grade 7. We have two qualified teachers, one qualified administrator and one Caretaker/Security and one cleaner. We know from stories of other people who have founded schools, that they too faced similar challanges and were able to overcome them. That inspires us and remains a reference point for us to lean on in our endeavour. At the end of the day it’s about giving the children an opportunity for a better future.” Director and founder, LT Hombarume.

The money we are hoping to raise will help them immensely in their quest of giving back to the residents of this socially deprived community. A community that face daily struggles to access the most basic of commodities such as electricity or water. The first cohort of children enrolled are happy and excited about their new prospects. The doors to a brighter future are now open for them. What we are trying to do is to grow the school and help get more students and teachers aswell as ensuring they have the resources they need to lay those important foundations. It also gives an opportunity for children who would otherwise not have access to education to do so.
