Make ‘The Story of Splott in 50 Objects’ museum happen
Donation protected
You can make something remarkable happen today by just giving £10 to start a movement and get a museum of Splott that fits into your pocket.
Some 50 items telling ‘The Story of Splott in 50 Objects’, have been co-curated with the local community and we are now appealing for contributions of as little as £10 to cover the cost of printing and to provide free copies to local schoolchildren, senior citizens, and those who cannot afford a pack of their own.
The ‘pocket museum’ features 50 cards, each card highlighting a different person, place, thing, or quirk of Splott’s story that celebrates a shared community pride, history, and togetherness.
It’s a story co-created by the Splott community. We’ve organised bus tours of the area on an historic bus made in Splott in the 1930’s, been to bingo and quiz nights, visited community groups, talked to people of all walks of life, and used online social media call-outs to ask the people of Splott what they want to see in their museum.
The result is a fascinating historic collection that you can hold in your hands.
The museum serves as a teaching resource, promotes alternative tourism, and inspires other local communities across Cardiff, Wales and the UK to co-create their own versions.
Celebrate one of Cardiff’s most cherished and famous communities - it now just needs you to make it happen!
By chipping in £10, or more if you can, to cover the cost of printing, ‘The Story of Splott in 50 Objects’ pocket museum can be shared across the Splott community.

Fun facts!
Did you know the first black captain for Great Britain or a home nation in any sport - Clive Sullivan MBE and current Wales football manager Craig Bellamy both grew up in Splott - as well as TV presenter John Humphrys. Former Prime Minister James Callaghan was its local MP.
Splott once boasted an aerodrome that was an RAF base in World War 2, and ‘The Imps’ on Splott Road is reckoned to be one of the oldest ‘greasy spoon’ cafes in Wales (and there’s many more local treasures to discover).
The museum was developed by local community groups, with the support of the Jo Cox Foundation’s More in Common campaign, and Cardiff Council’s community cohesion programme funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
Make the difference you want to see in your world! Support the good people of Splott and beyond. A better future is in your pocket.
