The Success Of Moss Side - A Community Rooted Documentary

Hi, I’m Baka, a young filmmaker who has grown up in Moss Side.

Growing up in this community means being drained by the media, being dragged by stigmas, and people thinking they know who you are because of your postcode. Moss Side suffers from bad stories, told by uninformed story tellers, who don’t have the time to give simple understanding - let alone compassion to the subjects pushed onto our headlines.

Like most residents, I want to counter the dark cloud that has lingered over my home and make way for the light that I know exists and nourishes this community beyond the crime and violence that it has had to endure. For so long, it’s been hard to embrace the abundance of what is Moss Side. But today, I invite you to take part in the recognition that we in this community deserve.

Having grown up in a huge family, I naturally feel compelled to care for others, thus feeling a great responsibility to this community that has contributed to my upbringing and made me who I am. As a filmmaker I am using my passion, skills, and interest to foster what I know is an ecosystem of talent. We have the potential to do something that will not only allow us to heal but also ensure that the future generations to come are set up for success, I encourage you to join me and see this bigger picture.
