The Sunday Family Dream Fund
Donation protected
The Sunday Family is a dream (filled) team of hardworking individuals with a genuine heart for hospitality. We are people who simply loves serving people. Recently, we came to the heartbreaking realization that we would have to close all of our restaurants (Sunday at the Museum / Sunday Bird / Sunday Gather) and effectively let go of all our incredible team members.
All small businesses are hurting at this time and our hardship is by no means greater than our peers. Our family is at the heart of everything that we do and it hurts to think they won’t have any support during this time without an end in sight. Everyone on our team has their own dreams they work hard daily for and its being halted to no fault of their own.
Our goal is to not only help support but sew into those dreams through this difficult time in any way that we can. You can read about those dreams below. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to aid our team members. Also, we respect privacy and anonymity but we would love to know who to personally thank when (not if) we get through this. Your help means the world so truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sunday’s Dreams
Joyce
Just one month after having her newborn baby she was back at the bakery producing her beautiful pastries. A true badass super entrepreneur mom who dreams of opening up her own namesake bakeshop.
Elaine
One of the most talented chefs that I know, along with her partner Eric, always goes above and beyond for our team. Her dream is to run a restaurant/bakery cafe on her own farm.
Daelan
Less than two weeks ago, we were in Iceland together representing the Sunday Family, excited for our future. He’s a natural born leader who dreams of opening his own board game cafe.
Rachel
She never sleeps nor takes a real day off making sure our back end finances are always tight. A worry bug who is still finding her dream but one thing she knows is that she loves serving people.
Vincent aka “Cenzo”
His growth from a wise cracking line cook to becoming one of the most reliable leaders on our team is why I get up in the morning. His dream is to open his own Mien style BBQ restaurant.
Max
Part time model, full time badass who manages Sunday at the Museum like a boss. His dream is to produce compelling content and tell unique stories.
Gabby
Our rock and longest tenured team member who also gives the best hugs. His dream is to open an Italian restaurant/food truck with his pops. He also enjoys race cars.
Darnell
The only person that is allowed to wear a Lakers jersey as company uniform and the person I hugged the hardest when Kobe passed away. His dream is his daughter.
Wen
Our resident insta-celebrity and talented designer who also coined “the sunday family” for us. He dreams of being an entrepreneur and running his own design company.
Zell
His first day was also the most chaotic busiest day at the museum and I’ve never seen anyone rock out like that on day one. His dream is to start his own online fashion company to provide for his mom.
Ervin
I mistakenly called him “Edwin” once and he still hasn’t forgiven me for it (I love you, please forgive me). His dream is to honor the traditions and heritage of the Philippines with his namesake restaurant, “Edwin’s”.
Ay
Mr. “Yes, chef!” who makes you happy by just looking at him but also has to stop cutting himself in the kitchen. His dream is to open his own waterfront bar and restaurant.
Koby
A day after he called me to talk/cry about a recent heartbreak, he was in the kitchen next day pushing through like a champ. His dream is to move down to LA to make music as a DJ.
Joy
A humble soul and our resident powerhouse musician who kept her superpower hidden from our team for the longest time. Her dream is serving others through her music.
Chris
He greets (and remembers) almost all of our guests by name and I’m fully convinced he’s the reason why Gather has so many regulars. His dream is to be a soils engineer .
Aaron
He came down from the men’s home one night (sensing I was super stressed) and asked if he could pray for me. I cried inside. His dream is to run his own bakery back home in Virginia.
Rosie
Our kind hearted mentor at the women’s home and a key member of our bakery team. Her dream is still “proofing”.
Sandy
Our lamination queen who sacrifices one of her days off just to be with us. Her dream is to run her own restaurant with her brother.
Jurrell
Our “swiss army knife” do-everything pastry delivering, proofing, line cooking, prep cooking rockstar who also serves in the Army Reserve. His dream is to be in aviation.
Abdullah
Probably the person I yell (lovingly) at the most and because of that we’ve developed this brotherly bond that's not easily broken. He’s an aspiring chef who wants to run his own kitchen back home in Florida.
Santiago
He is Mr. Sunday Bird and is the biggest reason it’s been going strong all these years. His dream is his family.
Joshua aka “J”
I know Sunday Bird is safe and sound because J has the largest biceps on Fillmore st. His dream is to “be a mother lovin’ boss”. He didn’t say lovin’ although he loves his mother very much.
Liz
It was only her second day of starting with us when we had to tell her that we would no longer have work for her. Heartbreaking. Her dream is to open up her own edibles cafe.
Josh
A silent leader who always organizes our mess without seeking notice or credit on his days off. He dreams of running his own Christian Men’s Shelter where he can help people who have had similar struggles he had.
Nate
His face was glowing after I gave him a copy of “Setting the Table” aka the hospitality bible the other day. He aspires to be a chef running his own fleet of food trucks one day.
Celeste
A valued member of our job training program at Gather who is always apologizing while we always remind her that we’re all learning here. Her dream is to become a hospitality rockstar.
Sunny
Another member of our team who is still kinda shy and quiet but is an absolute sweetheart. Her dream is to be renewed first and foremost.
Deuki
A highly overrated chef and heartbroken leader. His dream is that every one of the above dreams comes true.
