The Surfer Kids Nonprofit

Every single day, five days a week, all year round, twenty five children attend The Surfer Kids' Core Surf Program . We provide the kids with surfboards, wetsuits, surf coaching, life coaching and meals.

The Surfer Kids is a registered Non-profit Trust  (founded 2010) based in South Africa. Our mission is to empower impoverished youths through character-building activities that teach commitment and dedication.

All the kids in The Surfer Kids' Core Surf Program are from the townships of Isazane, Isinyonka and Fairview, known collectively as JCC, JC Camp or Joe Slovo Village.

According to statistics (which can be viewed here and here ) the poorest of these areas are comprised of less than 25% formal dwellings. Less than 2% of people over the age of twenty have any higher education, less than 5% of households have access to piped water and less than 30% of households have flush toilets inside.

We encourage all the children who join our program to return as often as possible, provided that they show dedication and commitment toward learning to surf. Our long term goal is to foster empowerment among these youths and we believe that the best way of doing that is by teaching commitment and dedication.

The Surfer Kids teach this powerful understanding early in life: no matter who you are, through sustained commitment and dedication comes success.

We can share many success stories of how the lives of these kids have improved since joining our program. Recently a representative from our program participated in the 2019 South African Junior Surfing Championships, which was held in Jeffrey's Bay. There are many more such stories, which we often write about on Facebook .

Our Core Surf Program has truly changed lives.

For the last nine years, The Surfer Kids NON-Profit TRUST was able to sustain itself through a Volunteer Program . However, this year, 2019, we have encountered some difficult times and are reaching out for help.

Due to political and economic factors (both local and international) that are far beyond our control, the volunteer market has been going through a very quiet time. This seems to be temporary as interest for 2020 has already picked up. However, it has become clear that The Surfer Kids will not cover their core operating costs for the remainder of 2019 without serious financial assistance.

 Please help The Surfer Kids.

Based on projections (and depending on developments in the volunteer market towards the end of 2019) we're looking at a shortfall of between R100,00.00 - R150,000.00 (about $6,700-$10,000 USD).

This is what we'll need to cover our core operating expenses for the remainder of 2019.

Any funding that we receive as a result of this campaign will ONLY go towards covering costs directly associated with our Core Surf Program .

To put it plainly, the money we receive will only be used for the children. This includes salaries for our two surf coaches, rental fees of our premises, and expenses related to the children's daily meals and transport.

We will NEVER ask for donations to cover expenses related to volunteers.

We would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this. Please feel free to send us an email at [email redacted].
