The Tardy Family

My sister in law Lisa Deshong is currently recovering from having a tumor removed from her brain. The surgery has not been as successful as we had hoped. Lisa is now scheduled to have a repeat surgery December 13th to find out why she is leaking spinal fluid. The spinal fluid is causing very noticeable swelling in her head. It’s suspected that the artificial (cow bone) they replaced in her skull is not “taking” but we will not know until they go back in. She is not able to work, or go home to care for her family. At this point we do not know if she will ever be able to have a normal life again. She is the soul provider for her family as her husband does not work and while she is only a teachers aide. Lisa is a very humble and selfless person. She has always put her families needs before her own. She was never able to finish her degree because that would’ve meant she would have to intern unpaid and there was no way she could do that being the only one working in her home. She also works/worked at the local grocery store as a cashier and at the local bowling alley just to make ends meet. She has always done whatever she had to do to keep her family a float. She just applied for temporary disability but we’re not sure if that’s going to come through. That being said she is now not bringing any money into her home. Currently Lias’s main caregiver is her mother and my mother in law Sandy Tardy. Lisa is currently living with her parents in their small 2 bedroom home that’s in need of many repairs and they are not in the best of health themselves. This has caused significant debt to acquire for both Lisa and her parents Sandy and Carl “Buzz” Tardy. On top of the health issues they are facing their water heater busted resulting in their floors falling in and mold to grow. When it rains it pours. We are so grateful to the family friends that have devoted their time, money and energy into fixing their laundry room and bathroom. Especially Ernie Grotte and Bill Palmer. Thank god for you all and your help. Jay and gracious friends crawled under the house already to fix the support of the house, but they still have plywood for floors throughout the house among other things that are in desperate need of fixing. The kitchen had to be torn out as well and they currently have no cabinets and wires are exposed. We are trying our best to help them but at this point we have exhausted all of our time and money and are now in over our heads with the repairs and expenses still needed. The living situation is pitiful to say the least and they do not deserve this.
My in-laws Buzz, Sandy and Lisa are the most giving and loving human beings on the planet and have helped many people throughout their lives. Jay recalls his parents always bringing people into their home (when he was young) who were down on their luck and staying with them until they could get back on their feet. Although on a fixed income they have helped their grandchildren get through college and have also helped support other family members in need. They are the type of people that would give their last dollar to help another person in need even if that meant they would go without. Unfortunately their life savings is gone now due to the trickling effect of caring for others and not taking care of their home. If anyone is deserving of some help it is Sandy, Buzz and Lisa! Anything we can raise is helpful and will go directly towards Lisa’s bills and home repairs.
