The Theater at Woodshill: Romeo and Juliet
Deducible
The Theater at Woodshill is beyond proud to announce its 2023 summer production, Shakespeare's classic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. This new production will change the way audiences have previously thought about the play and will be a heartfelt way to celebrate our seventh season as a company – it is a season of big pivots and important changes as we look to preserve and grow our Shakespeare theater for the coming decade.
The central change, which reframed the conception of the play, was casting our two lead actors at an age closer to what we’d expect the classic lovers to be. We’re so proud to have two young, local and incredibly talented actors in the title roles.
This year, for the first time, we're taking the important step of selling our tickets at a minimum donation, rather than offering all our seats for free. The reason for this is twofold. First, we want to ensure there is some incentive for folks to take their reserved seats, therefore avoiding a situation where a show is fully reserved but empty seats remain come performance time. Second, the Theater at Woodshill wants to be here forever, and that means finding more sustainable and reliable means for supporting our productions, which, as they grow in professionalism and complexity, require more resources. We hope this is understandable.
As part of our fundraising, we'll still lean on the crucial support of grassroots contributions. To that end, this year, we're hoping to raise $5,000 by the end of June—before rehearsals begin—to cover certain core costs:
Food & beverage (for cast - rehearsals and production) - $2,000
Bathrooms (for audience - during performances) - $1,500
Set design & construction - $750
Costumes - $500
Props - $250
TOTAL $5,000
Thank you so much for your continued support. We cannot wait to welcome you back to the Rose Theater this summer. In the meanwhile, enjoy Spring!
