Our Story - The Three Mums

Hi, we are Stacey, Lorren, and Katherine – three mums who were brought together by our shared journey through the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Derriford Hospital. Our daughters were born three months early, each weighing around 2lbs, and they endured over 100 days in the hospital. To say our worlds were turned upside down is an understatement. Every day was hard, scary, and filled with uncertainty and fear.

Leaving your sick baby every day in the hospital is something no parent should ever have to experience. It is unnatural and utterly devastating. But despite the pain, we found strength in each other and in the support of those who helped us during this unimaginable time. One of those sources of support was Keep Me Close, a charity that provided us with a home-from-home experience, allowing us to stay as close as possible to our babies while they were receiving treatment.

Without the help of Keep Me Close, our journey through NICU would have been even more traumatic. This charity gave us a place to rest, to recharge, and to feel just a little bit closer to our girls during those long, difficult days. The sense of community and support we received was invaluable, and we will forever be grateful to the incredible staff in the NICU who cared for our daughters and to Keep Me Close for being there when we needed it most.

We’ve come together to create this video to share our story, to show our appreciation, and to give back to the charity that helped us so much. The bond between us, and with our daughters, is unbreakable. The love, care, and support we gave each other during this time made all the difference, and we’re forever thankful for the people and the organizations that helped us through it all.

This year, we are conducting a variety of fundraisers to raise as much money as possible for Keep Me Close, with a main event being a sky dive! Every penny we raise will help families who are going through what we experienced – so that they can stay close to their babies, just as we were able to.
