The time for change against domestic violence is NOW.
I am a 47 year old women living in NSW and horrified, scared and appalled at the number of women who continue to senselessly lose their lives in preventable domestic violence murders. These are all incredible women, with unique stories, going about their daily lives, meeting horrific ends which they just don't deserve and can rarely defend themselves from.
I can't read about one more women violently dying, and not do something to try and help. I read this week that Delia Donovan, CEO of Domestic Violence NSW, is asking the state government to ''commit to investing at least $40 million to help end preventable murders in the state and to promote greater accountability at all system levels, including the courts''.
I don't know how long it would take to get this funding, and don't imagine she'll get what's is needed, so rather than waiting around for politicians to talk about change that's needed, I want to help Domestic Violence NSW get some immediate funding before another women loses her life to domestic violence.
Í know there is a cost of living crisis and people are short on money just to survive, so even if you can donate just a few dollars, every little bit is going to help DV NSW work towards their vision that ''Women, families and communities in NSW live free from violence, have equal rights, equal opportunities and the freedom to reach their potential''.
You can either donate directly to Domestic Violence NSW, or another charity or organisation working towards creating a future for all of us, free from violence. Or you can help reach the goal I'm setting of donating $1 million towards DV NSW, with the hope the government will find the rest of the funds so desperately needed.
