The unexpected passing of Dan Godinez

My name is Daniel, I am Dan's son.

This tragic loss of an absolute gem of a man has taken us all by surprise. He passed very unfortunately due to critical complications during open heart surgery. So many things went wrong at once, that he slipped into a coma for four days, and passed away on the morning of Saturday, October 16th 2021. It is not often you meet a man who will actually give you the shirt off his back. As of right now I am planning to conintue staying in his apartment and taking care of pa, my 92 year old grandfather. I have been fortunate enough to spend two years here taking care of the place. I have gotten so close with my father that i can say without a shadow of a doubt that i have just lost my best friend. He cared so much about you, even if he just met you. The last act he did while living was to buy pizza for the nurses at the icu. These health related debts, living expenses here for pa and I, and the memorial services are going to be my biggest challenge to take on in his passing. It had been suggested to create this page to help cover some of the medical bills, funeral costs, and debts that have been left behind in his absence. It is so terrible to have lost such an amazing, kind, and caring man. It is all so unexpected. I plan on picking up where he left off on his final project, and continuing the development of the property at 2603 S. Halsted, to memorialize him. In the mean time I am going to be going through his debts and bills, and balancing everything. Every cent of this GOFUNDME will be used towards Dan's life that has been left behind. Please consider giving in this time of unprecedented loss for us, there's not that many of us. We will be using Dan's Facebook to organize the funeral and get-togethers to celebrate his life.
