Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This is a short recounting of the hardest week of our lives. On the morning of October 13th, Sarah von Rosenberg was home alone with their three young children after her husband Jaret, left for work. After several attempts to reach Sarah, their seven year-old son answered the phone and let his grandmother know that his mom was “asleep on the floor” and wouldn’t wake up. Bravely, he kept his five year-old sister and nine month-old brother safe until an ambulance, his dad, and his grandparents arrived.
Sarah was immediately taken to the closest emergency room where doctors discovered she had a large blood clot in a vessel on the right side of her brain which caused a massive stroke. The stroke affected the entire left side of her body. Medical personnel medflighted Sarah to Presbyterian Dallas. There, she underwent brain surgery to remove the clot.
Things progressed well on Saturday, but sometime early Sunday, Sarah drastically took a turn for the worse as her breathing declined rapidly. The ICU team rushed to intubate her, did more scans, and found three more clots which were not operable. This triggered a second stroke. Things looked very grave and close family urgently flew into town to see her. Sarah is a fighter and did not give up so easily, becoming more stable.
Sarah was finally able to get off the ventilator a couple of days ago and is slowly progressing. She will hopefully get out of the ICU soon and then hopefully from there, she becomes strong enough to get transferred to inpatient rehabilitation as soon as possible.
The next six to eight months are critical to maximize her recovery in rehabilitation where she will need to relearn how to speak, eat, and walk. Sarah has an amazing medical team. She will require at least one, and possibly two more surgeries soon. She will need medications for the rest of her life, and being an active mother and wife will be very difficult.
Sarah is paralyzed on the left side of her body, can only speak a few words, and has months of intensive and expensive therapy ahead. After this eight month window of treatment and rehab, any gains will likely only come from her efforts and willpower.
The truth is Sarah has a long and grueling road ahead. Jaret and their three young kids will be on this journey with her. We are seeking this fundraising campaign to help a family in need with out-of-pocket medical care, rehab, and childcare expenses, among others. Sarah is the Chief Operating Officer for Mowax Visual, a marketing agency based in Dallas.
We ask you to help this incredible family during an impossibly difficult time in their lives that no one could ever see coming. Sarah is one of the most generous and positive people many of us can ever meet. She is a warm and loving mother, wife, sister, friend, and just an incredible person. She is an enthusiastic Commerce Lion who dotes on her children and stands by her husband while he works in the tough industry of Division 1 college basketball.
If Sarah or Jaret has ever touched your life, or the lives of others you know, please support them during this impossible time. There is some hope Sarah can make a full recovery if she gets the medical care and therapy she needs over the next six to eight months. We are incredibly grateful for any support you can offer.
