The Wesson Boathouse
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Bernice, and I am fundraising for the restoration and preservation of the Wesson Boathouse located on the lower Shawme Pond in Sandwich Village. The boathouse was built in 1902 by James Wesson. It was considered a mini palace, and it was reported that James Wesson and his family could be seen in their Victorian splendor enjoying the Venetian boat carnival during its grand opening. Postcards dating back to the 1900s show other boathouses on the pond, but the Wesson Boathouse is the only remaining one. In 1957 the Popes took over the boathouse and had ownership until 1997, when Ronald Cronin bought the boathouse. Over the last 25 years, the boathouse has been deteriorating and is now in crisis. As the new owner of the boathouse, I aim to preserve and restore the structure to keep a piece of Sandwich's history for future generations. All donations will go towards stabilizing and restoring the Wesson Boathouse.
