The Wheeler Family's Deuce's Daring Heart Journey

Hi, I’m Essie; I’m the grandmother of Christopher, AKA Deuce. Deuce is four years old. He was born with a heart condition. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a congenital disability that affects normal blood flow through the heart. Since he was born, he has been in and out of the hospital. He has had five surgeries on his heart. I have been blessed to assist with his care a small part of the time. I have witnessed his parents' care and dedication to fighting for their child's life. They have sacrificed all.
Recently Deuce experienced heart failure. He is now at Texas Children’s Hospital on a heart pump, waiting for a heart transplant. This process takes several months of hospital care, and rehabilitation time. Currently, mom and dad are with him daily right by his side in his hospital room.
As part of Deuce’s care team, I assist with rotating in and out to give his parents a break. I see firsthand the physical and mental toll on their bodies. Right now, their careers are on hold and income for living expenses is affected. Deuce’s parents rarely ask for help. So, it is difficult for some to see or understand their needs.
This Go Fund Me will help with medical copays, living expenses, hotel stays as they rotate in and out of the hospital, housing near the hospital, meals, hygiene and self-care items. In addition, the care and equipment needed when Deuce comes home.
