The Wimer family needs our help.
Donation protected
Hi, friends!! I have reopened the GoFundMe page for the Wymer family.
Marshalene was taken to Baylor Hospital on Thursday with complications. Their stay may be longer than anticipated. Any donations and prayers are much appreciated!!
I’ve posted the latest update from Brad below:
“Marshalene Update: 11-07-22 @3:30pm
Marshalene continues to struggle with intense nausea, abdomen pain and weakness, which is common for a mad liver.
Her liver levels are continuing to drop and so that’s a huge praise. This morning the infectious disease Dr said that it appears the E-coli started in the liver bile duct, possibly from surgery back in Sept. and then got in blood stream from there.
They are still waiting for others cultures to come back. They have also done more testing today like an echo to make sure the infection didn’t attack her heart valves and damage them. Tonight or tomorrow she has a biopsy on a thyroid nodule they discovered. That was a huge scare to both of us, since having gone through what we did with Marshalene’s Dad years ago and losing him to anaplastic thyroid cancer.
Continue to keep praying. We appreciate the prayers and help with the boys so much!”
Hi, my name is Nancy and I am raising funds for the Wimer family to help cover medical related expenses.
I will start by saying that I have never met a more caring, loving family like the Wimer family. It all started when my oldest son, Braiden, and Hunter Wimer became friends. Marshalene and Brad Wimer instantly treated Braiden like one of their own. They would have him (along with over 10 other kids) over to their home every Wednesday afternoon for their “Wild Wednesday”. Marshalene would have snacks prepared and all the kids would play games. From there, they would bring them to their youth program and transport them all home. Braiden definitely looked forward to those Wednesday evenings!
”Wild Wednesday” is just one of the many examples of how amazing these two people are. Everyone that knows them could attest to it.
Marshalene has battled many pancreatic surgeries and has recently discovered that the removal of her pancreas may be answer.
This 10 hour surgery will be performed in Dallas, TX on September 21, 2022. She will be in the hospital for 10-14 days then she will be moved to a transplant apartment for another 5-10 days.
While she is in the hospital, Brad will be traveling back and forth to Fairview to check in on their 3 boys.
My goal with this GoFundMe Account is to help them with any medical deductibles Marshalene may have, food for their stay in Dallas, fuel for Brad’s travels and help for the caregivers of their children while they are away.
To give a clearer picture of what they are about to face, I’ve included Marshalene’s Facebook post below:
“I’m having lots of questions being asked about my upcoming pancreas removal surgery like….When is it? How long will you be in the hospital? How do you even function without a pancreas? Will you have to be on lots of meds afterwards, etc.? So, I thought maybe an explanation on here would help.
My surgery has been scheduled for September 21st. It will take place at the Baylor White University Pancreas and Liver Disease Hospital in Dallas, TX. It will be a 10 hour surgery. I will be in the hospital 10-14 days and then move across street to their transplant apartments and have to remain there on close watch for another 5-10 days.
Here’s a simple explanation of the surgery.
It’s a complex surgery involving the full removal of my pancreas. Removing my damaged and inflamed pancreas will offer relief from the daily pain but also will do away with all the procedures that I’ve been having to have 2-3 times a year. Ordinarily, removal of your pancreas would immediately cause diabetes because cells in the pancreas produce insulin, which the body needs to process glucose. To prevent that from occurring, doctors will isolate my insulin-producing cells in my pancreas and transplant them to my liver, where they continue to work. That’s our prayer and the goal. It doesn’t always work 100% but even though imaging clearly shows my pancreas has damage, my Doctor feels as though my pancreas still has islet cells left for it to work.
This is a huge surgery and recovery but the alternative of not having it is more and more procedures for the rest of my life to continue to get rid of the stones growing in my pancreas, more painful pancreatic attacks and a decline in overall health as my pancreas continues to die off.
So, even though the timing seems so horrible with my boys all in different schools in the most active stages of their lives; and I have no idea how everything will work out with their needs while I’m away; we really feel that it’s the right thing to do while I still have a chance of this amazing medical discovery to work in my body.
Specific prayer requests would be right now for the planning of everything with the boys while I’m away. Another prayer request would be for peace of mind for Brad and I. Pray for the boys as this is a big thing for them too and for the caregivers of the boys while we are away. Pray for my surgery team. They do only one or two of these surgeries a month and a 10 hour surgery requires a lot from them.
I’m so thankful to know my doctor is a Christian. I’m so thankful we know Jesus and He lives inside us because even though there are a thousand unknowns, I know He will provide, He will walk through everything with us and I know He will bring good from this challenging time. I know, because He’s done it time and time again through our past struggles. Thank you for praying and caring!”
Thank you for taking time to read this post and thank you for your help!!
