The Womicks' "Total Loss"

There's no easy way to say this; on Saturday evening we lost our home and almost everything inside to fire.

Both dogs and seven of eight cats have been accounted for so far; one cat, little Jojo, didn't make it off the back porch. My dad's baby, Bella the black cat, was upstairs yet somehow made it out alive. She's currently in kitty ICU but doing well so far.

The house itself will need to either be gutted or torn down.

Words cannot describe how it felt to reach the road that led to my childhood home and see it completely blocked by multiple fire trucks, or see what I saw once it was finally clear for me to go inside. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers as we cope with this absolute nightmare.

For now we are asking for help with Bella's significant vet bills (I put down a deposit for $2600 yesterday on credit), the cost of a storage unit to hold what few things we can recover, a dumpster for everything else, materials to secure the property, and the cost of me breaking my lease in Boston and moving back down here to NC to help handle everything.

Additional expenses are very much expected as we more fully come to understand our options and needs.
