The Year of Jade - Her best year ever fundraiser

"Dear friends it’s with a very heavy heart that we let you know that Jade lost her short battle with DIPG today. (18th August)

She had a sudden and rapid decline and became unconscious from 8:00 last night and went peacefully this morning, after this horrific cancer caused her much pain, stress and a multitude of medical complications for the past 6.5 months. We are thankful that Jade is at peace now.

We thank you all for the love, wishes and support you have provided us during this challenging and difficult time.

Hi, My name is Liz Showniruk and I am starting this fundraiser to give Jade Elizabeth Brennan the best year of her life.

Jade is a year six student at Moreton Downs State School in Deception Bay. She is very excited about begin voted in as School Captain for 2023. A high achiever who wishes to become a vet, Jade adores animals and is a strong supporter of the environment. She loves swimming and plays the flute. Jade is very close with her younger brother Connor who has taken on the responsibility of Honorary School Captain while Jade is having cancer treatment. She has two older sisters, Sammy and Kit who she loves dearly.

Jade was diagnosed with Diffuse Midline Glioma at the end of January this year. A rare and aggressive cancer of the brainstem that mainly affects children. It is hard to put into words the dire outcomes of this particular cancer and I urge you all to look it up.

Jade's parents, Patrick and Linda Brennan are fighting alongside Jade to give her the best quality of life, for as long as they can. This means aggressive treatment of the cancer, with radiation and the inclusion of Jade into several trials of new medications and treatments.

Jade’s family has been uprooted by this sudden and tragic disease, which has changed their focus to prioritise Jade in all things. They are lucky to have a strong support network of family and friends, supportive employers and first-class doctors who are doing everything they can to give Jade the best opportunities and outcomes. They have all put their lives on hold and moved to be closer to the hospital, where Jade is having daily radiation therapy. In the coming months, they will need to relocate to Sydney where Jade can partake in a clinical trial.

Between all this, it is the hope of her family, and all those who love them to make sure Jade can fulfil her dreams and wishes. This fundraiser will assist the family in their coming journey and ensure Jade has every opportunity to have her best year ever. The year of Jade.
