The Antidote: An American Theater Documentary

Tax deductible
Hey everyone,

We're excited to share our latest project with you—a documentary titled "The Antidote" that I am co-directing with Jeff Wise. This film dives deep into the challenges facing Broadway and the broader American theater industry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As you know, the pandemic hit the arts community hard. Attendance has plummeted, and financial pressures are threatening the very existence of many beloved theaters. "The Antidote" aims to explore these struggles by talking to a wide range of industry insiders—actors, producers, stage managers, designers, and more. Each of them will share their unique perspectives on the current crisis.

But this documentary goes beyond just the numbers. We're unpacking the socio-political issues that have become intertwined with theater culture. From polarization and ideological divides to the politicization of art, our film will shed light on the complex relationship between creative expression and societal expectations.

Despite the challenges, there's hope. We'll showcase alternative theater communities that are thriving outside the traditional hubs, places where creativity and artistic freedom are alive and well. These stories of resilience and innovation will offer potential solutions and a path forward for the industry.

Our goal with "The Antidote" is to spark a broader conversation about the value of live theater in today's digital world and its role in shaping our collective consciousness. We believe that the lessons learned from the theater community can reflect broader national issues and inspire change.

We're reaching out to you, our community, for support. Producing a documentary is a massive undertaking, and we need your help to make it happen. Your contributions will go towards production costs, travel expenses for interviews, and post-production work.

Join us on this journey to uncover the uncomfortable truths and celebrate the enduring spirit of the theater. Together, we can bring "The Antidote" to life and ignite a rallying cry for collective action and renewal.

If you wish to support, you can contribute a tax-deductible donation to our producing partner, Wheelhouse Theater Company. All funds received in this campaign will directly contribute to furnishing costs associated with the production and post-production of The Antidote.
