Theater Kid is a musical drama which focuses on the relationship between the two leads of Bishop O’Dowd High School’s upcoming winter musical. Follow Kenneth struggle through problems of confusion and delusion as his image of his own stardom dilutes his empathy and respect for his fellow castmates. This movie will sweep you off your feet with its bombastic song and dance numbers, while throwing you back down to reality with its grounded, emotional drama.

The film deeply explores ideas of morality within interpersonal relationships and the consequences of actions. As you watch Kenneth, you are invited to question his motivations, as well as the responses others seem to take towards him.

My name is Liam Burns and I’ve spent the last four years of my life in UCSB film studies. As I am approaching graduation in spring 2024, I couldn’t help but reflect on the last ten years of my life. This story is incredibly personal to me, and somewhat autobiographical through my own theater experiences at Bishop O’Dowd. With the experience I’ve gained from my time in film school, and the amazing actors and crew members I’ve met along the way, I am beyond confident in our ability to pull off this ambitious film.

In order to make this film possible, we need some extra support from donors in order to house, feed, and transport a large cast and crew, as well as rent out large auditoriums and necessary equipment. Our budget is just about $8,000, so any and all donations are greatly appreciated and encouraged!
