Our Mission Statement
Bridgend's first pub theatre; looking to become THE hub for local creatives in the area and surrounding. Unique to the area and intimate: an “in the round” (but adaptable) 25-30 seat space. For all creative practice.
Our mission is to inspire new or early careers, as well as established theatre makers, artists & musicians to help us kick-start a new wave of Welsh theatre; for its culture to not only survive, going through its lowest point, but thrive again!
Bringing a Fringe theatre scene that's missing to this part of the country is something that is vital to us, looking at the thriving London Pub Theatre scene, we hope to encapsulate a sprinkle of that culture in the town which we met, attended college and began our journeys together as a company.
Providing an inclusive platform for a wide variety of promising new plays, adapted classics, new musicals, intimate gigs & performance based pieces, as we build a strong community, through outreach and accessible ticket pricing (introducing a cap), mainly across the South, Lower-Mid, West & East of Wales; aiming to eventually and predominantly incorporate at least one community and one youth project per half-year.
A producing, independent theatre - run by Shed Theatre, part-time (initially three days a week; rising to four), in line with The West House Hotel: From in-house productions, to annual new writing festivals, award/development schemes, East London transfer options and in-house publishing. Also running in-house workshops and a self tape/audition help service.
Hiring to visiting artists, companies and musicians- for performance, rehearsal space, R&D days & more.
Who are Shed Theatre?..
Born in a shed in Cardiff, the theatre we like to create is always less about the budget and more about the piece. Run by Evan L. Barker (East 15) & Iwan Bond (LAMDA), we’re two guys who are passionate about theatre and its survival (for everyone) in the modern day. Usually intertwining elements of music, movement and a little absurdity with naturalism and good performances into new writing and adapted classics. In intimate spaces, for a wide range of audiences. Bold and progressive theatre that we pride on being accessible. A proudly Welsh theatre company based between Swansea and East London respectively, we both met in 2016 and have been making theatre together since 2018. We are recently off the back of a successful production of Simon Longman's critically acclaimed “Milked” at the White Bear Theatre in Kennington. We have a depth of relevant experience working in theatre, on Shakespeare texts and adaptations; as well as contemporary, almost always new works and working with young people.
