The Awesome Spot Playground

April 27th, 2012. A day that will forever be cemented in my memory. I had my nephew staying with me for a few days and we had plans to go to the park after my girls were out of school. We were meeting up with kids and their moms, from Aubrey's Kindergarten class. We had a picnic then play time. Our little Tommy Lee, who was 4 at the time and not walking yet, was ready to join the able bodied kids on the playground. Once he was delivered to the structure with the slide, he was in heaven. He was scooting about, laughing, talking with the other kids, but my heart broke a little. He had no way to keep up, other than to scoot after the kids, on his bottom with his hands, because his wheelchair wasn't able to go where he was wanting to go.
This is what my sister, Rachel Loredo, has lived since his birth. She has now made it her life's passion to give Tommy Lee, and those like him a place to go where all children can play without exclusion.
Together with Shane's Inspiration, and with the full support of the City of Modesto, we are bringing an all inclusive park to life here in Modesto. A park with play environments that serve the physical, social, sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs of children and adults of all abilities in our community. A lifetime of inclusion for all children, adults, and families, with or without special needs, who visit this park. Help us turn this vision into a reality. Join us in bringing this awesome park to our community, where all children can come together, without barriers.
A donation if you are able, and a share, is all we are kindly asking of anyone reading this. Donating and supporting this cause means that the smiles, laughter and fun never have to end.
