The John "Bernie" Martin Memorial Scholarship
Tax deductible
Please contribute here if...
... you have RSVPed and plan on attending the Bernie Benefit in New York City on January 5, 2019 (minimum contribution of $100 per attendee).
...or DO NOT plan attending the Bernie Benefit but would still like to contribute to the fund.
All donations to this campaign will go directly to the John "Bernie" Martin Memorial Scholarship created to honor the life of our dear friend, John "Bernie" Martin.
The John "Bernie" Martin Memorial Scholarship will be endowed through the Brooklyn College Foundation at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema to ensure the many benefits of Bernie live on!
The Brooklyn College Foundation was established in 1958 to encourage and promote the academic purposes of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and the educational welfare of students, faculty, alumni, and the community. Through a full spectrum of fundraising programs, the foundation provides resources that advance the mission of Brooklyn College.
The Barry R. Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema is the only film school in America to be built on a working film lot. Feirstein is housed at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, the largest soundstage complex on the East Coast and home to many movies and TV productions. As the first public film school in New York, Feirstein is dedicated to diversity, inclusion, and the cultivation of new and emerging voices in cinema.
The criteria for selecting a student to receive the scholarship will likely be of a similar nature to that a previous fund set up by Local 817, which specifically aims to support the education of women and minority film students at the Fierstein School. Further specifics regarding the scholarship will be decided pending the amount we raise for the fund.
Please email [email redacted] if you have any further questions!
