They met in 1990 at the Beach Club at Conneaut Lake. They were married in '97. Already being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis ("MS") in 1991, Bethe welcomed their first born, a girl named Morgan in 2000 with Glenn by her side. And in 2002 to complete their family, a son named Lake.
In the early 2000's, Glenn and Bethe Ott lived as the perfect, hard working, American family. Glenn owned and operated a real estate brokerage, Ott Agency, in the height of the American real estate market, and Bethe had a Masters in Social and Public Policy from Duquesne University, working for a center for victims of violent crime - her dream was to go to law school.
As anyone knows, real estate is a people business, and good for Glenn, he was a people person. With his wife by his side, Glenn grew his real estate business to a successful small firm in the city of Pittsburgh, PA. Bethe worked towards law school admittance, but her MS was always present.
In 2008, with the real estate crash, Glenn's business took a large financial hit. And with that, everything went south. Bethe began to decline - quickly. From a cane, to a walker, to a wheelchair and to being fully paralyzed, the next 10 years went from having the world at your fingertips to finding ways to make it through each day successfully. Glenn stayed by his wife's side, to the detriment of his business, and did what he needed to do to keep the roof over their heads and food in their bellies.
The medical bills began piling up: 24-hour nurses and aids, doctor visits, and other necessary medical treatments. When you're in a people business, and you are unable to meet with people, it hurts. Now, they are in need of modifications to the home to help with the care of Bethe. And as most understand, these modifications can be costly.
For anyone reading this who has met Glenn, you know that he is a very charismatic man. The positivity that this man exudes puts the bubbliest child to shame. He would never purport to, ask, or even hint that he is in the least bit of trouble. But at some point, my husband and I finally convinced him to sit down and write this. He's in need of financial support - for his home and for the medical bills incurred over the years.
Sometimes, you just need to ask for help. Glenn and Bethe thank you for donating to their family. You have no idea the impact you have made.
