A little bit about the Squires Effect…..
The Squires Effect is a small Leicestershire charity that was set up in 2012 by the Squires Family after their daughter Claire died just a mile from the finish line whilst running the London marathon. Claire went on to post humongously raise over a million ponds for the Samaritans who she was running for that day. The family didn’t want her death and the death of her brother 12 years prior to be in vain, so they set up their charity to carry on their good work and to make some good come of these 2 terrible tragedies.
‘Our charity is run solely by volunteers, nobody takes a wage, or gets paid and that means that every single penny that is raised goes directly to helping people less fortunate. We can’t divulge details of everybody that we help because of people’s privacy but we can share with you some.
Over the past couple of years here are just a few of the things that we have been able to do:
-Provide ongoing financial support to both the Market Harborough and Lutterworth Food banks
-Funded 3 defibrillators in 3 different locations in Market Harborough, these have already been used to save lives!
-Paid for 10 under privileged children to go on holiday to Mablethorpe, for many this was the first holiday they had ever had
-Financially supported 3 families whose children had cancer
-Paid for physiotherapy for a young boy with cerebral palsy
-Donated substantial amounts of money to various charities including; Hope against cancer, Laura Centre, Rainbows, Adaction and more
-Paid for the ashes of a local lady’s mother. The family desperately wanted them but just could not afford to pay for them. This wasn’t a lot in terms of money but it meant the world to this family
-Paid for life changing equipment for St Lukes Hospital in Market Harborough
-Provide transport for the Harlequin group to meet up and have a meal out every few weeks, for many this is their only social interaction
-Funded a therapist who provides alternative treatments to cancer sufferers
This is the tip of the iceberg. The list is endless. Everything we do is to help people, groups and charities that are less fortunate than ourselves. Life is amazing but it can be tough at times so it’s great to give back. ♥️’
