The Capitol Project

The Capital Project, located at 35 Willow Street in Winsted, Connecticut, will convert a vacant, former factory building into 20,000 ft.² of clean, useful commercial and residential space. This is the pilot project for Laurel City Revamp, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The organization focuses on upgrading the energy efficiency of a property, while preserving the historic character, and reusing the property for the overall benefit of the community. This includes providing affordable incubator space for new start-up businesses, as well as clean, efficient, unique residential units. This project will involve a complete property rehabilitation - replacing windows, increasing insulation, installing LED lighting, upgrading heating and air-conditioning systems, and installing both solar electric and solar hot water systems. The project will also address a public health hazard, eliminating all environmental issues on the property, which includes oil, asbestos, lead paint, and heavy metals. The total rehabilitation of the property will be approximately $750,000. We are asking for $125,000 for this fundraising campaign, which will go directly towards the completion of the project. The remainder of the funding will be obtained through a construction loan.
