Hey everyone, my name is Vinay. I am the founder and curator of The Cutlass Magazine. Many have reached out to contact my social media coordinators and content creators. However, there is no team. The Cutlass Magazine has been run by me from the beginning. It is the product of some seven years of independent research, ongoing study, and my archival project. For two years, I created content online while being a full-time graduate student and having a full-time job in fields unrelated to Indo-Caribbean studies and indentureship. The discipline to maintain this pace came from a pandemic-born fear of irreversible loss to our history and culture. In a relatively short period, there seems to be more interest in knowing who we are, where we come from, and what we can preserve. The effort behind this platform requires an immense investment of time for research, documentation, and archival and funds for resources and equipment. The Cutlass Magazine has been entirely self-funded as institutional funding and grant money are virtually inaccessible to me. At a certain point, I have had to reassess my limitations.
