The Easy Bit

Hi, I am Zara Ballantyne-Grove, producer of The Easy Bit.

Tom and I have worked since 2010 and have become friends along the way. We both work at a video production company called Upbeat Productions.

When Tom and his wife went through fertility treatment in 2015, it proved to be one of the most challenging times in Tom's life. You can read his story here . What struck me as most shocking throughout his journey was how little support he had access to. After his journey, he came to me and said that he needed to make a film about what it was like to go through fertility treatment - from a man's perspective - and The Easy Bit was born. Tom explains why he wants to make this film in the video on this page.

Our documentary will feature men talking candidly to camera about what it is like to go through all the various stages, finding out about needing treatment, making the decision to try fertility treatment, going to the clinic, the hormone treatments, egg collection and sample giving, the implantation wait, the implantation procedure, the two week wait and finally taking the test.

We will find a way to make this film regardless of how much financial support we receive. However we do need a minimum of £10,000  to cover the cost of the equipment, studio space, travel for the participants to a London based studio, travel for the crew to the participant's home, and we also need to feed everyone on filming days. Beyond that, our ideal budget is actually £37,373.16 and this would include paying a small fee to the crew for their time, an upgrade in equipment, a small marketing budget to promote the film, and a researcher.

What will happen to The Easy Bit?

Our goal is to create a feature length documentary showing the reality of the fertility journey from the man's perspective. We want the documentary to be seen by as many people as possible and be a source of help to any couple receiving or thinking about fertility treatment.

All of our contributors will receive a streaming link of the completed film. Contributions over £250 will receive an optional thank you credit - please message us if you would like this credit.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We are grateful for any donation of any size, and please do share this campaign to help raise awareness.
