The Joy Foundation- Big Build Uganda
Donation protected
"We now get to play instead of beg or work for food. We have three meals a day. I didn't know this life could exist for us!" Stephen, age 9.
The Joy Foundation was formed in April 2020, after two friends met on a volunteering trip in Uganda. Jade, 25 from England and Benjamin, 26 from Tororo, Uganda realised they had a shared vision to help vulnerable children including orphans. They decided to do something about it.
Over the last few months, The Joy Foundation have supported, three families; seven children and one widowed mother. They have provided them with shelter, paying rent in new houses for those who were squatting in unfinished buildings, providing monthly food packages, home schooling whilst schools are closed during the pandemic lockdown, bible teaching whilst spreading hope into their lives and having lots of fun playing and being joyful!
We now have a small team of volunteers including a pastor and social worker who are helping us provide the best care for the people we now call family.
Our next step is to build a small village for our Joy families and many more children we plan to help, to live, learn and play. It will contain four houses and a community centre. The rest of the land will be used to grow crops and produce animals so that the mothers of the homes can earn an income.
So far we have sourced and purchased one acre of land, which has been surveyed and made legal via reputable Ugandan solicitors. The blue prints have been drawn up and the builders have begun digging the land ready to lay the foundations!
The costs of the separate buildings are below. Right now, we are raising £20,000 to get this project up and running. We are grateful for any donation that is given to us and can promise that 100% of the money raised will go straight towards the building work. Please join us in transforming even more lives!
