The Meyer Family
This page has been setup by friends and family of the Meyer family.
Their Family
Cory and Carrie Meyer (Rice Lake, WI) are parents to 10 children. They're active in their church and are surrounded by a very active faith community.
The Reason This Page Exists
Cory has experienced many major complications with what was supposed to be a routine surgery for appendicitis. Due to the complications, he has been in the hospital for many days and once released, will need weeks for recovery. Neither Cory or Carrie have FMLA, and Cory is without short term disability to help cover his their time off. When he will be able to return to work is unknown, and during this time, Carrie will be the primary care giver. Currently due to this situation, there is no income.
Our hope is to help provide financially for their needs during this difficult time.
Their Diagnosis (written by family)
Monday morning, December 28th, Carrie took Cory to the ER with what was suspected as appendicitis. After routine blood work and tests, it was confirmed that he indeed had appendicitis. Cory would need surgery to remove it, but the good news was it was not ruptured! Everyone thought this should be a routine surgery and fairly quick recovery. He was expected to go home that same day. What happened next, was nothing routine, and three weeks later we find ourselves still in the hospital. The first surgery included a ruptured appendix. Cory developed sepsis during the hours that followed. A second emergency surgery was performed and it was discovered that Cory's colon was perforated during the first surgery. He had infection everywhere, developed abscesses of infection, had to have 6 inches of his large intestine removed, and his large intestine resectioned to his small intestine. Cory ended up with 41 external staples holding his incision closed as well as internal staples holding the small intestine to the large intestine. Cory spent 8 days at the hospital fighting sepsis and then was transferred to Eau Claire when he wasn't getting better and a repeat CT scan showed new abscesses of infection. In Eau Claire, Cory has continued to fight to get well, and he has faced numerous set backs. When he is released, he will be facing weeks of continued recovery at home. Closing Note (from Carrie)
One thing we have, is faith! Faith that will not waver. Things that are unknown and unseen by us, are known and seen by the Father who loves us. I hope others will see how God moves through all of this. I pray He is given all the glory! He is the mighty healer! We covet the prayers of many and we ride out this storm!
