There is Life After Lary!

No voice box no problem, we’ll shout loader then them all!

My name is Bill aka Larynx lad, I was diagnosed and operated on at aged 36 for laryngeal cancer, the cure a full Laryngectomy, the complete removal of the voice box along with a w’hole’ new way of breathing! (not part of the life plan!).

So what do you do next, well the traditional take it easy, don’t do anything stupid and relax didn’t quite feel right. So 2 years on, Snowdon, 3 peak challenge, athnx, 3x Hyrox, 24 peak challenge, 72 hole golf challenge and a more leisurely golf days later, I’d say I’m trying my best at my second chance.

So why stop there and this year is bigger then ever as I have something even more amazing to fight for, the opportunity to help so many other Lary’s and Trachys that have been forced to embark on this journey.

This year all money raised will be going to the organisation Life After Lary, a band of Laryngectomy and Tracheostomy patients that have formed a community via Facebook, websites and face to face meets to ensure the ‘no Lary ever feels alone’. The work that these guys do is incredible, from information, to community support, to equipment, to awareness and all from those who are living and breathing the adaptions to life we live with.

Most people wouldn’t know what a Laryngectomy is let along have meet one so these groups offer such an insight for those early days either prior or post surgery to what to expect for yourself, for your family and for your carers. The encouragement I received from seeing those 5, 10 and 28 yrs on ensured that there was nothing that couldnt be tackled head on, that if you want to do it there is a way.

We may be a few but how many of that few are inspirations are incredible, the things people have achieved when your expected to fade away and sit back.

Snowdon expedition, 24 peak plus challenge, charity football match and the obligatory charity golf day penciled in so far let all get involved.

So please, please, please join me in trying to raise as much funds as possible for this spectacular support group so they can grow and continue to be there for those who can feel lost and lonely.

2025 will be a year to remember!

Thank you
