The savior project is a fundraiser to honor the COVID-19 heroes and to provide relief to the communities they serve. This is our way of saying Thank You.
This fundraiser seeks to recognize the extraordinary individuals who have saved us and others in this moment of crisis. Let us honor them today and help the world remember their names.
While thousands have suffered and died as a result of the pandemic, thousands of individuals have also risen above themselves to serve in the front lines, deliver an essential service, or simply provide much needed comfort. A handful of names have been mentioned in public, but I believe we can do better by recognizing every single one of them so they can inspire more of us to do the same.
What do you get for your donation?
1) You donation entitles you to nominate a name to be recognized in the savior project website (thesaviorproject.org) which will serve as a virtual tribute. If you do not have their name, that's okay. You can nominate your "Grocery Store Cashier" or "The guy who still delivers my packages."
2) Once we get 100 names, I will personally volunteer my time and resources to manually imprint the names of the people you honor in stainless steel strips (I can only print alphabets A-Z). These malleable pieces may one day be part of an actual physical memorial.
How much do I need to give?
The ideal is a dollar ($1 USD) for every letter of the person's name/description (ex. I nominate "Susan Davis" and I donate $10), but it's really up to you. You can give less and you are welcome to give more.
Who can I nominate?
Anyone in the world who you think saved you or others -- a doctor, nurse, cashier, mailman, police officer, bus driver, server, neighbor, friend. This fundraiser is open globally. A person can be nominated multiple times by various donors.
How do I send the name?
After donating, click on Continue. Add a comment to this campaign citing the name of the person (ex. you can say "Camille Reyes" saved me). Include in " " the person's name/description you want printed.
How does your donation help?
Your donation will help support the creation and maintenance of the website (thesaviorproject.org) and purchase of additional materials for imprinting . I will also donate my time and existing personal resources to the above as well.
Most of the amount will be distributed to various charities, small businesses, and individuals in dire need. Some candidates are:
Global Giving, The Small Business Relief Fund, Seattlefoundation.org, fdnyfoundation.org, and local senior centers. If you have a suggested causes or know someone who is in dire need, please let me know using the CONTACT button.
I will update donors of the amounts and recipients as donations are disbursed.
How big can this really get?
If we get a thousand names, my dream is to get volunteer sculptors to create a fitting memorial that will include all these steel pieces. Wouldn't it be great to have an outdoor sculpture that would remind generations of the sacrifices done during this time and the enduring nature of humanity? If we get 10,000 names, we may even be able to place memorials in each of the major cities that were hit by COVID-19. We may never get there, but if enough people dream with me, we just might.
