Theta Xi - Omega Chapter - Washington State University Sports Court / Patio Project

UPDATE 9/21/2022:

After much working through the maze of the City of Pullman's building Code, Major work has begun! We had to make some modifications to the original Plan, but it is essentially the same.

This project has been in the planning stages for years. We are one of only a very few fraternities on campus that do not have a Sports Court at their House. The benefit for Recruitment and Member participation in activities at the House can not be overstated.

This Spring, the Active Chapter Members approached the Board of Directors with a plan to make it happen. They have raised a significant amount of money which they want put toward this project. The Board has developed a site plan that is split into two phases:

Phase 1 includes a retaining wall along the alley and sidewalk on Opal Street with a sports court that is level with the lower patio in front of the House. The wall will extend 20” above the slab. The court size will be almost 30 x 30 feet with a basketball pole, backboard and hoop on the alley side. A 10 ft. tall black vinyl coated chain link fence will top the wall behind the basketball hoop.

Phase 2 will expand and extend the court slab as a patio along the Opal Street side, as shown in the diagram. The low wall will extend around the perimeter back to the House, as shown. It will expand the basketball area and allow for other activities such as volleyball and social functions.

The project has been put out to bid with several contractors with the best bids coming from companies local to the Pullman area. The best one is a Pullman contractor who is motivated to finish the job before students return for Fall Semester. The total cost of the Phase 1 project comes to nearly $40,000.00 including a percentage for contingency issues that may arise.

Financing: The Active Chapter has raised over $15,600.00 from Parent's Weekends gift auctions and other donations from individual parents over the last 2 years. After crunching our budget numbers, the Alumni Association can contribute another $17,000.00

This Go-Fund-Me effort hopes to raise at least another $15,000.00 to complete Phase 1, and any excess will be put toward the Phase 2 expansion.

Time is of the essence so we may accept the contractors' bids and accomplish the project before school starts on August 22, 2022.
