This October 15th is very special. Its my milestone birthday and all I can think of is how will I fulfill a goal of giving a worthy black or brown young woman an opportunity to go to college. You see about a year ago, I had a vision of hosting an event on my birthday to give away 50 scholarships to well deserving high school students who desire to go to college. I imagined I would host a gala with friends and friends of friends and together we would celebrate the next generation in ensuring that we create opportunities for them to go to college. Well, little did we know we would be in the middle of a pandemic. Nevertheless, the burning desire to fulfill this vision has not gone away. I’ve searched my mind for ways to make this happen, ways to raise the funds to make this possible. So here I am looking to you to help me build “TheTalkDr. and Friends Scholarship Fund.”
I’m not sure what will come of this message, but I am hoping you will come along side my vision and support me if giving a black or brown young woman a chance to go to college. We may not be able to offer a full ride, but my hope is that the donations will offer a start. I am hoping the winner(s) of the scholarship will be someone who is interested in a career in a helping profession that will help fight the ongoing and painful battle of mental illness. As I pour into others in my career as a Psychotherapist, Coach, and Motivational Speaker, I hear so many tragic and painful stories that I realize that society is hurting. The profession continues to need skilled and dedicated professionals to research and care for the mentally lost and those experiencing challenges to cope on a day to day basis, because of their mental health struggles.
Thus, I am asking you dear friends and friends of friends, please give generously in increments of $50’s to “TheTalkDr and Friends Scholarship Fund.” This scholarship fund will be managed by a scholarship management organization to be announced. As I search for the most suitable organization to manage the funds, I hope that you will begin giving throughout the month of October. If you’ve thought about helping me celebrate my milestone birthday in some small way, I hope you will consider giving to this fund. Together, we can ensure that the next generation of black and brown young women can realize a dream of going to college and making a contribution to a small part of society that needs help in such a big way.
