A crippling humanitarian crisis in Venezuela is resulting in a severe lack of food, medicine, education, and safety. The migration of Venezuelans out of their country has reached levels never seen before in modern history. Over 4 million Venezuelans have left since 2015 and the United Nations estimates about 2 million more will leave in the next year alone.
"The International Monetary Fund expects the inflation rate to reach 10 million percent in 2019, which is one of the worst cases of hyperinflation in modern history.
Violence and hunger are widespread. 80% of Venezuelan households don't have sufficient access to food. Grocery store shelves are bare. Hospitals struggle to treat severely malnourished children. The country's public health system has collapsed, leaving many without access to life-saving medicine." The migrants crossing the border are increasingly malnourished and sick.
Hayden Heninger served an LDS mission in Colombia. He was sent to live in the border town between Venezuela and Colombia called Cucuta. Nearly 40,000 Venezuelan refugees cross the border from Venezuela to Colombia everyday traveling through this border town, Cucuta. This is where most Venezuelans start their journey, usually on foot, to neighboring countries in search of safety.
Hayden Heninger and Payton Heninger are going down to Colombia this fall to create a documentary and help bring awareness to this Venezuelan Crisis. They will be traveling alongside these Venezuelan refugees documenting their stories, showing their sacrifices, and providing help where it is most needed. All donations will go towards supplying food, clothing, shelter, and transportation to the Venezuelan refugees as well as helping create this documentary.
We deeply appreciate every donation, every share, and all of the support. Thank you!
