THIS COMPAIGN IS CLOSED!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND CONTRIBUTIONS.
A NEW CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN SET UP...Link to be shared here shortly.
#TheWalk is a Canadian registered non-profit international aid organisation.
The city of Bulawayo (Zimbabwe's second largest city) is facing its worst water crisis in over a decade due to back to back drought spells in the region during the rain seasons of 2018 and 2019. Many residents in high lying areas across the City receive water only at night or no water at all when the city engages its water shedding program. The Bulawayo City Council has identified twenty-five (25) sites that comprise of 6,099 affected homes in desperate need of emergency water supply where proposed water tank kiosks will be erected. #TheWalk has committed to raising CD$15,000 to erect two of the 25 complete sites in accordance with the Bulawayo City Council’s construction guidelines.
As of May 15th 2020, all the dams which are the primary water sources of the city of Bulawayo were reported to be at less than 30% full and this has led the Bulawayo city water authorities to begin shutting off water for upto 6 days at a time in order to conserve and drag water availability for the city until the next rain season.
The high density suburbs that this specific fundraising compaign is going to service with water tank kiosks are Magwegwe and Nkulumane, and both are already areas experiencing the 6 day water shedding schedule where all households are left with no immediate access to clean and safe water.
Help for these areas of Bulawayo is needed NOW! More so, especially because of the pandemic Covid-19 virus that has also hit the city’s residents hard. While the World Health Organisation, supported by governments all over the world are calling for mandatory frequent hand washing and sanitization of all citizens in every country, as well as social distancing, for residents of Magwegwe and Nkulumane high density suburbs of Bulawayo, those COVID-19 precautionary measures are simply impractical. The scramble for water to cook and to flush toilets has taken inevitable precedence, leading to some residents resorting to the collection of untreated sewage water from open streams and gutters, to use for flushing toilets.
Please join us to lend a helping hand where it’s needed right now. Water is life and water is needed in Magwegwe and Nkulumane now. Together with you we can provide it and save lives
Thanking you in advance,
