Thirsk AGAINST Battery Storage (TABS - Action group)

Whats happening?
In mid October 2024 an investment company quietly announced that they are intending to put in a planning application to build a battery storage site and electrical substation in between Thirsk, South Kilvington and Felixkirk. The battery storage site is expected to contain over 1000 shipping containers and a large sub-station, creating the BIGGEST battery park in Europe. The proposed site is 173 acres, with an option over another 100+acres for what can only be assumed further development.
The impact:
- A development of this size will have a serious impact on the visual presentation of this currently beautiful countryside.
- The views from Sutton Bank (The finest view in England) will be destroyed forever.
- High yielding agricultural land will be lost forever.
- This could be the start of further industrialisation to this area.
- The long term safety and fire risk of this type of development
- The long term impact on nature and the environment
- Issues around noise and light pollution
What are we doing?
An action group has recently been formed and our plan is to STOP this from happening.
Why?
Because we strongly believe that this is the wrong location for this type of infrastructure, for the above reasons.
Why we need funding?
We need to get a fund together to pay for a professional team to assist our action group.
This is our future, this is the loss of local amenities at the expense of all residents in the Thirsk and wider area to benefit a Luxembourg based investment company.
