Help this family reunite

Hi my name is Liza, and I am fundraising for our little crew. For the last 3.5 year we have lived in Hattiesburg, MS while my husband finished his doctorate work. During his time in school, we were separated most weeks either due to clinicals, studying, and COVID. He graduated in December and got a job in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He moved out in March while the kids and I stayed behind for them to finish out their school year. I booked our move with Alliance Moving Company. Our original quote was $8,457. When I spoke with the company about a week before the move to go over inventory again, the price jumped to $13,324. With our budget, I could make that work but it would be tight.

The movers showed up on a Saturday, 3 hours past the time frame they originally said. The company said they would be sending a semi but when the movers showed up it was in a regular moving truck. Over the next 7 hours they shoved boxes down stairs, breaking our things and just things that had fallen out just on the stairs or in hallways. They smoked weed inside the house as well as out in the yard. They didn’t finish that night and said they had to find somewhere to store my things before coming back to get the rest. They said they would be back the next morning by 10:00 am and it would only take them an hour or two to get the rest. They showed up at 5:00 and didn’t get done until 10:00pm. They moved so slow and took frequent breaks to smoke. Our home was never supposed to be in a storage unit and a friend overheard the lead mover on the phone with the company and the coordinator saying they couldn’t even get a storage unit. My things will be touched 4 different times and the likelihood of it all making it and in tact is low.

After all of the things were loaded, the head mover jumped the price to over $20,000. Minus the deposit I had already paid and &5,100 I paid Sunday night, that leaves us with still needing to pay $12,000 to the company. They’ve been very clear to say that they will not give us our things until we pay.

My husband has a great job and I have been offered a teaching position with the school system. Between buying our first-time home and moving across the country, that is not money we have access to right now.

This move is especially hard on our big kids and if we are having to live in an empty house for months I can’t imagine how much harder and confusing that will be for them.

thank for you reading and giving so our little crew can be back together. This will be the first time in 5 years that we’ve consistently been together as a family and we can’t wait for a “normal” schedule of life.
