This is Kevin

This past April, a visit to a Toronto hospital's ER was life-changing for a young family. What began as a visit to find out why Kevin Cahill, 44 years old was suffering from weakness and severe nausea, turned into a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a cancer of the white blood cells and bone marrow. Immediately, Kevin entered Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) to undergo aggressive and life-altering treatments. Kevin, supported by his wife Cheryl, is now facing a truly serious battle with leukemia.

Kevin received a course of IV chemotherapy drugs, which was followed by a period of recovery over the past few months. His numbers looked promising, and it seemed the cancer was in remission, but in late July, Kevin's numbers began to rise and any hope of receiving the bone marrow transplant in August was dashed. Kevin is once again hospitalized and is undergoing comprehensive chemotherapy treatments.

The young Cahill family is facing a very long and difficult journey. But a poster written by Kevin's wife Cheryl, hangs with love on his hospital room door. It is a reminder of one's humanity, of one's love for each other and the value of life and one's contribution to it.

Wife: Cheryl (aka C)
Daughter: Sian (pronounced Shawn)
Parents: John and Marilyn
Twin Brother: Pat (aka Paddy/Patrick)
Kevin loves basketball. He can talk for hours about the games and the NBA.
He is a music scholar. He has a deep knowledge of hip-hop, metal, blues, jazz, folk and everything weird and wonderful.
He is generous to a fault. He will help wherever and whenever he sees a need.
He makes friends with everyone!

“We love him beyond words. Please take good care of him.”

Kevin and Cheryl now find themselves in a very precarious position; dealing with a life-threatening illness and meeting their present and future financial obligations. Kevin's journey to recovery will be at least one to two years. During this time Kevin will be unable to work and without an income. Cheryl, as the primary caregiver is currently working part-time, but will have to take time off to assist Kevin in the recovery process. Needless to say, both incomes will be drastically reduced at a time when medical costs will continue to climb.

Life throws us many challenges, but with the love and support of family, friends and other angels many of these challenges can be overcome. This GoFundMe Campaign has been set up to raise money for mounting medical bills, and the months and possibly years of lost income. We have been friends of the Cahill family for many years. We have witnessed the generosity and kindness of this family to others in need. We respectfully ask you to consider becoming one of “Kevin's Angels” by making your financial contribution today.

Thank you in advance.

Peace and Blessings
