Chelsea Corey Campership
The CCC Story, 2018:
Hello to our wonderful friends, family and supporters, near and far:
After a few months of planning, we are so excited to announce that the 2018 Chelsea Corey Campership fundraising campaign is officially up and running once again!
If this is your first time visiting this page, you might be asking "What is the Chelsea Corey Campership, and who the heck are you?”
We are Carolyn’s Babes, a group of former Kennolyn Camps staff members, who are joined by a love of camp and a love for our dear friend Chelsea, who sadly passed away in 2015. Chelsea was a camper and staff member at Kennolyn Camps and embodied a sense of adventure and a spirit of kindness that inspired all she met.
We are raising money for the Chelsea Corey Campership Fund to send deserving and excited children to attend Kennolyn Camps for a one-week session. There, they will be given the opportunity to be a kid in the truest sense; through spending time outdoors, meeting new people, trying new things, and gaining the independence and confidence that one can only find at a summer camp. These incredible kids will are sure to have a summer that they will never forget.
Things will look similar to past years, with a few exciting new developments:
1. We are now officially working towards turning this fund into a sustaining endowment, which we understand is a large task. This means, however, that future campers can benefit from a summer at Kennolyn for years to come.
2. A huge component of the Kennolyn experience is gaining confidence and comfort in the great outdoors. Coincidentally, hiking and spending time outdoors was a passion of Chelsea’s. To celebrate and pay tribute to both, Carolyn’s Babes will be hiking around the world throughout the year.
3. We will organise a hike in the United States, one hike in Scotland, and one hike in New Zealand. With over 30 participants, this is bound to be the most exciting campaign to date.
This year, our goal is to raise $12,000 by June! We have no doubt we can meet and exceed our goal - but it will only happen with the support of incredible people like you.
We are looking forward to keeping you up-to-date throughout this campaign. Be on the lookout for more exciting announcements to come!
Thank you in advance for your donations, support, well-wishes and encouragement.
All our best,
Jack Linscott, Sarah Finnegan, Stephanie Gates, Jamie Terris and the rest of The Babes
The CCC Story, 2017;
That’s right, we’re back!
5 teams, more than 20 runners, 3 continents, 2 events!
On May 28th, twenty twenty-somethings from all over the world are running the Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for an amazing cause. Now, I know what you’re thinking; another bleeping cause? Don’t we have enough going on right now? But wait- this one is different. We ‘non-runners’ are running these 26.2 (oh gosh) miles for a cause very close to all of us. We’re running to raise money to send less fortunate children to summer camp. See - I told you this one is different! Last year we raised over $10,000, which offered sponsorship to two incredibly deserving campers at Kennolyn Camps in Santa Cruz, California. The Chelsea Corey Campership funds continue to sponsor campers this year too, and we intend to add to it.
Now, nearly a year later we are back with bigger numbers, a fiercer heart, and stronger willpower to send more courageous, excited, and smart children to camp. We know that there are a lot of deserving places you can donate your money to (especially in today’s world) however, we truly believe that the continuation of the Chelsea Corey Campership will benefit a vast amount of families and also, communities.
At Kennolyn, children are able to have fun, learn new skills, and build meaningful friendships. Studies show that camp helps children build self-confidence and self-esteem as well as grow social skills and willingness to try new things. By raising money to send children who otherwise would not have been able to experience camp, we hope to continue Chelsea’s legacy; she embodied the soul and spirit of Kennolyn, and evidently left a large impact on campers and counsellors alike.
So if you have 5 or 500 dollars to spare, please think about donating to this cause where your money will go directly to the Chelsea Corey Campership and will provide children with an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience that they will never forget.
The CCC Story, 2016;
On July 21st 2015, we lost a wonderful camp counsellor and dear friend, and in Chelsea's honour we'd like to send a deserving child to our camp (Kennolyn in California) through the Max and Marion Caldwell Foundation. The tuition is $1,800 for a fun-filled, unforgettable experience at Kennolyn that could truly impact a life.
We (Catherine, Scott, Jamie, Jack and Ben) intend on completing the Belfast City Marathon (in May 2016) to raise money for this cause. Although we became friends with Chelsea in California, we represent Ireland, England and Scotland, a testament to the impact Chelsea had on all of us from all over the world.
Camp was a big part of Chelsea's life and it is our hope that by donating to the Max and Marion Caldwell Foundation another child will have the opportunity to experience what we have at Kennolyn. This is for Chelsea.
