My dad passed away on May 28, 2022 at the age of 63, after suffering from two severe strokes and a one month battle in the ICU. He was a father, grandfather, and uncle. His death was sudden--symptoms of stroke emerged coming home from work on April 13th. Within 2 weeks, we were processing how he can possibly recover from such a severe stroke, and within 4 weeks, we had to make a choice to put him on comfort care to let him pass. Losing a parent this way was the most difficult thing I have ever experienced because the choices we had to make as a family had to do with how he was going to live, and how he was going to be saved or let go. At every stage, it was so heartbreaking and devastating. Watching him intubated was difficult. Watching him struggling to breath and swallow, and bleeding from the medications was unbearable. Watching him trying to answer with blinks and barely able to move his hand broke my heart. I felt anguish listening to the nurses describe his suffering the longer we let him go on. In the end, we made a choice to allow him to rest in peace and pass with dignity.
He wasn't the best dad growing up but to all of us he was Dad. A constant presence, a reminder of where we got our stubbornness from, and an undeniable thinker. He struggled expressing his emotions, had trouble finding meaningful connections, and always seemed to have upset someone after lengthy debates over topics that didn't even matter. That was my dad. He wasn't perfect and we didn't need him to be. He's made a lot of mistakes, but left behind so many learning lessons for us.
He leaves behind my mom, my three brothers, and two granddaughters.
I've created this fundraiser to help my family with funeral expenses due to his unexpected passing. He was the sole provider in our family and before he left us, he still wanted to try to get better so he can go to work. Our grief holds a lot of sadness and regret that there were so many conversations we still wanted to have with him. We miss him so much.
We greatly appreciate the support from family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. We thank you so much for your help.
With much gratitude,
