Thomas and I met in  February of 1989 at Louisiana College and it was truly love at first sight. We have been inseparable ever since.  We got engaged in 1990 on the LC/MC Overseas student exchange programme where we lived  for a semester in London and were married in June of 1992.  We have lived through ups and down for 32 years together but no matter what happened, we were happy because we had each other. Thomas had Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1996 and after a very long and gruelling year of chemotherapy and radiotherapy  he went into remission. During that time we realised how precious life is and that you must follow your dreams no matter what other people think and so in 2004 we achieved our dream and emigrated to the UK. We became British citizens in 2011 and we have lived adventurously for a decade in England before moving to Wales seven years ago. We have been truly, madly, deeply in love, living life on our own terms for the last 17 years in the UK.

In February, Thomas was once again in hospital and we were devastated to find out that his cancer had returned after 25 years of good health.  This time  the cancer was in his oesophagus and had spread to his liver. We are in palliative care under the wonderful NHS so we will not have to worry about medical bills like we did before, but we are working  hard to  get me ready to live  independently before he enters into Hospice.

Thomas is very concerned about leaving me in debt and so we are trying to raise enough money to pay for a cremation and bamboo urn for him as well as a Celebration of Life memorial in the future when it is safe to do so. Since we are still in the midst of a pandemic, the memorial will need to come later, but we are planning it together so I can be ready when the time comes.  We do not know how long he has left, he has good days and bad, but he is weak with severe anaemia and an infection that doesn't respond to antibiotics and so we want to be prepared.

Any other money we raise  would go to helping me start over on my own. Because of health reasons I only have a part time job and so any extra money would help me meet our outgoings of around £950 a month especially since I will be taking a leave of absence from work when he enters Hospice so that I can be with him and care for him at the end of his life.

This is the hardest thing we have ever faced, but like all things in our life we will face it together with love.

Thank you for supporting us in any way you can. Your love and support are giving us strength to help him die with dignity and so he can rest easy knowing I am provided for.

With all our hearts we thank you,
Heather and Thomas
