Thomas is waiting for a new heart. ❤
Donation protected
Born with a form of heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), Thomas, who is nine years old, has had a difficult journey. The disease, which has enlarged and weakened his heart to the point that it cannot pump effectively, has caused such widespread damage that he is at risk of heart failure without a transplant.
Since May 2022, Thomas has experienced several intense stays in the hospital and in November 2022 he was officially placed on the transplant list at 1B status. Less than a year later, on July 14, 2023, a routine heart cath revealed his heart’s condition had worsened and his transplant status was upgraded to 1A — top priority.
While we are a step closer to a new heart for Thomas, it brings many new challenges. Thomas has moved into the hospital, and he will live there until he receives his new heart and recovers from the transplant.
This change means new routines for himself, his parents, and his little brother. John (Dad) will continue to work for as long as he can, and he and Katherine (Mom) will be splitting their time between Thomas at the hospital and caring for Zachary (little brother) at home.
Funds raised from donations will be used to make sure that Thomas has everything he may need while in the hospital and after the transplant. Funds will also help with living expenses when John needs to take time off from work, and all medical expenses that we will accrue.
If you can donate, we appreciate your help. If you cannot donate, please pray for us, and share our story. We are grateful for any help and every prayer for our family during this season of waiting.
