The Keelworks Campaign for Full Employment

Tax deductible
What We Hope to Accomplish: Everywhere we look there are people in need: homeless on the street, refugees in camps, and the endemically poor in every city. There are programs for education, feeding the hungry, ministering to the health needs, and housing for the homeless. These are important, and KeelWorks Foundation will leverage those. Those programs offer fish to the hungry. Those programs are temporary; they do not support change. We aim to help the hungry fish for themselves. We will address needs where we find them. We especially hope to support reintegration and successful recovery from career displacement, recovery from substance abuse and incarceration, and starting anew after escaping tyranny. We realize that bringing everyone to sustainable employment helps more than those we directly help.

How We Support Change: The KeelWorks model is assessment of need, for barriers, then team formation with core competency learning, followed by goal determination and management. Each team stays together for mutual support for however long it takes for everyone on the team to be stable in sustainable employment.

Why We Need Your Help: KeelWorks has supported change for ten years. KeelWorks has never paid a salary. Rather than asking for money, we’ve tried to build our solution with volunteers. Our volunteers come to us to enhance their employability - they leave. We make a difference in their lives, but their effort at core competency course development is derailed as they leave for full employment. New interns can't pick up where others left off because they need to start at the beginning to benefit from the program. We need funds to support full time staff, drawn exclusively from those we help.

Where Your Donation Will Go: We need to finish building our course competency courses. We need custom software to support onboarding, databases to house information about education grants and other participant support resources.  We need to develop training for team facilitators. We need to develop a competent needs assessment program for understanding individual barriers and for resources to overcome those.

We need your help to build this. Our initial funding goal is for enough money to skeleton staff to support volunteer participation. A modest amount will allow the executive director to quit his "day" job. The first hires will come from the population of volunteers involved over the past ten years. We'll pay our help fairly, but leadership is committed to no greater than the organization's average salary. We believe in full inclusion and an egalitarian environment.

Foundation Sustainability: Once implemented, we believe other nonprofits will contribute to foundation funding. We also believe a functioning program will garner much more corporate support. We also believe we'll be able to re-package our core competency learning as leadership training for forward thinking organizations. We'll still need donations. We will still need volunteers to help with every aspect of this venture. We have volunteer support across the globe, and there is always room for more ([email redacted]) - especially when we can hire a volunteer program manager.
