Thomas-Hankerson Family House Fire - Medical, Burn Care Fund

The SILA family would like to keep everyone in the loop about one of our teammates. Some of you may already know but many are likely hearing this for first time. There was a significant house fire in Philadelphia on Tuesday morning which affected one of our own, Donald Thomas-Hankerson and his family. There were significant injuries to Donald and his oldest son Aiden (8yrs old). His wife and his youngest son (7 months) who were also home at the time were able to escape with minor injuries.
Donalds injuries came from rushing in the home to save his son Aiden from the house fire.
Bill Doyle went down and visited Donald today. Bill informed us he is very well taken care of at Temple University Hospital in the burn care unit. They are doing a tremendous job of making sure that his wounds are dressed, pain is tended to and every aspect of his healing and recovery is being considered.
Aiden is in the process of being transferred to a burn center in Allentown that will be better suited to continue his care. Aiden is critically injured having burns affecting over 80% of his body.
Donald’s parents, Terry & Donald Sr. were both there today and were strong and hopeful. They’re heartbroken for their son and his families, pain, suffering and injuries. However, they remain full of faith for their recovery.
The road of recovery will be long for Donald and his family. Some good news is that Donalds burns were not quite as severe as initially thought. Although he is sedated everybody there said that he can hear his visitors.
If you know Donald, his courage and concern for his family over himself will not surprise you. He’s a kind, unassuming, respectful, and contented. He is a good man. Our collective thoughts and prayers are with Terry, Donald Sr., Donald, Melina, and the children for fast recovery, for healing and for restoration.
