Thorben’s Medical Treatment

Donation protected
We are Daisy and Michael. Proud parents of our 5 year old son, Thorben.

For those who know Thor, he’s a happy kid, smiling and constantly laughing. Some may have noticed developmental delays and other aspects of his personality that make him a little different to most boys his age.

First two years of Thorben’s life were similar to a healthy happy toddler. He had good development progress and gave us no indication of underlining health issues.

At the age of 2, we began noticing behavioural changes, development delays and a change in his personality. As parents, it was an emotional rollercoaster. We went through days of worry, not to mention the tears and the struggles to find the answers to our son's condition. After multiple visits to our paediatrician, tests and referrals to other specialised doctors, Thorben was diagnosed with Autism. This confirmed the signs of developmental delays, sensory processing disorders, motor skills impairment, non-verbal behaviours, chronic gastrointestinal issues and brain inflammation from his daily seizures.

In addition to general medical treatment Thorben has been receiving, we’ve done so much of our own research in hope to give Thor the best chance at a normal life. As a family, we’ve adapted to specialised diet, which has already shown small but significant changes in Thor’s development, including his first words. Upon further research, we’ve come across the benefits of Stem Cell Therapy in particular targeting his seizures.

Stem cell therapy involves intensive treatment with stem cells obtained from donated blood of the umbilical cord. This form of therapy aims at replacing damaged cells of the body by using healthy cells. Selective areas of Thorben’s brain are damaged and do not function normally. Stem cell therapy works by repairing and restoring the affected functions and helping improve the quality of his life. There is no other treatment with backed research and successful outcomes like stem cell therapy. This is our greatest chance at helping Thorben to become independent and to communicate before he begins school next year.

Currently, stem cell therapy is only available in selected countries overseas. This treatment has been available since 2010 and has proven cases of improvement in those suffering from daily seizures. It’s only natural for us as parents to do what we can for our son. As expected, it’s an expensive treatment and the travelling overseas is required to seek this therapy.

We are seeking support from our family, friends, the local community and anyone out there who can donate, towards Thor’s stem cell treatment. Normally, we wouldn’t ask & feel somewhat uncomfortable seeking financial assistance but with a treatment success rate of 91%, we want to do all we can to help our son with his condition.

It has been difficult to watch our son contend with his condition, especially the seizures. We want Thorben to get better, to be able to talk and make sentences, giving him the best opportunity to play with other children, participate in daily activities, be able to socially interact and most importantly, bond and communicate with his mum and dad.

We hope you can let a little bit of Thorben into your life and in return, you’ll help our little man have the best chance of getting better.

Thankyou so much for reading our story.
