Give the invaluable gift of an education! Help us raise $25,000 so that 20 students in The Thorn Tree Project's Samburu Scholarship Program can begin their school term this January.
Help these 20 promising young students achieve their dreams of completing their education! Equipped with an education, our students can rise out of poverty and change the future of the Samburu people.
Thank you for your support - please spread the word!
Who are the Samburu?
The Samburu people are semi-nomadic pastoralists who have practiced the same traditional lifestyle for centuries. Climate change has threatened their way of life. Most importantly, without education they cannot advocate for their rights nor decide which parts of the developing economy/society they wish to adopt or discard. Most of our students are the first in their families to go to school. Equipped with an education, Samburu students learn new skills and find jobs that support their families.
About the Thorn Tree Project
The Thorn Tree Project is a 501c3 not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to helping the Samburu children of northern Kenya to go to school and receive the level of education they desire. Founded in 2002, we are registered with the IRS as the Sereolipi Nomadic Education Foundation, Inc.
The Thorn Tree Project supports:
14 preschools (Samburu District)
3 elementary boarding schools ( Samburu District)
123 high school/ technical students (Nationally)
12 university students
What is the Samburu Scholarship Program?
The Thorn Tree Project launched the Samburu Scholarship Program in January 2006 as a simple yet highly effective way to ensure that the top-performing graduates of the three elementary schools we support could go to high school.
Twenty of our students currently need sponsorships so that they can continue their education in high school or technical school in the new year.
Our campaign goal of $25,000 ($1,250 x 20 = $25,000) will cover the cost of 20 students' living and academic expenses (including tuition fees, meals, housing, medical care, uniforms, books, academic supplies, tutoring and mentoring expenses, and transport to and from the schools) for one full year.
