Thorp High School Football Fundraiser
Our current Thorp football high school program is in the early phases of a much needed rebuilding process. Due to numerous leadership changes over years within that program, the program has lagged behind in developing player numbers necessary to even have a team, and getting the right resources/equipment to get our community, school, parents, businesses and kids excited about Friday nights! With a new staff, led by coach KD Stokes, we're on the right track. But we need your help!
One of our primary goals is to develop and create a culture within the program and our schools, to have these kids become future productive members of society as they leave our football program. Creating a positive cultural influence within a football program can have a far reaching impact within other areas of the school and our community. We are already off to a very good start with leading those kids in the right positive direction, and getting kids excited about football and being positive members of our community. We have already started to improve the numbers of kids that are coming out for football this upcoming season, but we certainly need to get more kids out, so we can have a meaningful impact on the future of these young impressionable kids, that certainly need the right guidance and mentoring in life.
With more athletes comes a need for more resources for both the middle school and high school football programs. Add to that our dilemma that the high school program is already behind on updating its equipment needs, and the high school worn out “hand me downs” that go to the middle school program are also even more out dated. We were also just informed recently that the school in undergoing some long term planning with updating its outdoor athletic facilities, which will have an impact on athletic budgets and the football program.
So the Thorp Cardinal Football program has started a GoFundMe campaign within the community. We have an ambitious goal of raising $20,000 dollars, and the GoFundMe campaign to achieve that goal. We're not selling cookie dough or coupon cards - those programs can often take up to 40-70 cents of every dollar raised! With this campaign, the Thorp Cardinal Football Program will keep 97% of every dollar that is pledged!
To get the program up-to-date, with those funds our plans are as follows in the next year or two as our fundraising allows:
1. Commit $6,000 to update our outdated larger sized shoulder pads and girdles. We are looking at 24 pairs of shoulder pads and 24 girdles (sports underwear that holds the hip, thigh and tail pads) for a cost of about $5,500. We actually need double that in girdles, so the remaining $500 or so left from this commitment would be used to purchase those as the ones currently used by the high school and middle school are so bad, stained and worn out, they are 5 years past their life cycle.
2. Commit $6,000 to update our torn and worn out home and away uniforms for the high school program. We want wearing the Cardinal uniform to be a sense of pride for these kids, their classmates and our community!
3. Commit $3,000 towards updating our worn out practice equipment for both the high school and middle school programs.
4. Commit $5,000 to the high school and middle school program to ensure every player has access to having a newer and safer helmet that has some of the latest concussion resistant technologies. Having a plan in place for replacing and continually updating helmets is a must in today’s football environment.
So if you have a family member in the Cardinal Football program, are an alumnus, or a booster, please consider donating to the program for this much-needed upgrade to our equipment. We want to continue to grow the program and we have to make sure our players are in the safest equipment available!
Thank you,
The Thorp Cardinal Football Program
