Three Cheers! When thank you just isn’t enough

Three Cheers!!!

For the staff at:

Nottingham NHS CAMHS Eating Disorders Team at Hopewood
Kings Mill Hospital Mansfield, Clinic 7 - Prostate Cancer Diagnostic Team
Nottingham, City Hospital Orthopaedic Department and Theatre Suite

My first response to anyone for helping me in anyway has always been, "Thank you", or even "Thank you, thank you, thank you"! However, over the past 2-3 years occasions have arisen where, for me, saying "Thank you" just isn't enough. On such occasions I have the need to try and help or give something back in any way I possibly can.

First Cheer
When our granddaughter, Amie, started suffering heart breaking mental health issues, times were tough for her and all our tight knit family. But, the CAMHS Eating Disorders team at Hopewood, especially Alexia, took her up in their caring hands. They guided and supported her along a difficult way to her Autism diagnosis - and beyond - showing understanding and care at every turn. Her struggles aren't over, but she's now able to look forward with hope and awareness of how she can fulfill her considerable, talented potential.

HURRAY! For CAMHS Eating Disorder team at Hopewood

Next Cheer
When my lovely husband, Malcolm, had a routine PSA blood test in December 2023 which turned up a reading of 57.3, alarm bells rang and the Prostate Cancer Diagnostic team in Clinic 7 at Kings Mill hospital, Mansfield stepped in with amazing speed and efficiency. 4 weeks later, after super care from Cancer Nurse specialists Liz and David, all scans and biopsies were complete and Malcolm was able to be transferred into the care of the "Gold Standard" Oncology team at the City hospital, Nottingham. Hormone injections are in place and the Radiotherapy required now already completed. Amazing treatment throughout!

HURRAY! This time to the smiling, positive team in the Prostate Cancer Diagnostic Unit, Clinic 7 at Kings Mill who always had time to check how he was and 'smile' us into looking forward again.

Hip, Hip, Hurray Cheer!
Yes, this one's for me! Just under 12 months ago I had the privilege to have both my arthritic hips replaced at the same time from the front and so be the first bilateral hip replacement by the Direct Anterior method performed by consultant Mr Mark Higgins on the NHS at the City hospital Elective Orthopaedic Theatre Suite in Nottingham. From my first appointment in early June 2023 to my operation just 2 months later on August 9th and discharge within 24 hours walking (with crutches), upright and pain free, the whole process was a revelation. The stars truly aligned for me on the day I met Mr Higgins. Within 12 weeks I was back at our Ballroom and Latin dance lessons and went on to successfully pass, with honours, our 3rd Supreme International Award exams in both disciplines on March 3rd, just 7 months after the surgery. Life changes incredibly quickly sometimes!

HIP, HIP, HURRAY! For the positivity and care shown by the whole team from Mr Higgins, the operating theatre team, physios and nursing staff, just amazing.

Thank you is really not enough, so........ I am going to walk from Kings Mill hospital Clinic 7, to the Hopewood CAMHS Unit in Woodthorpe, then on to finish at the Orthopaedic Theatre Suite at the City hospital. I hope to complete this on August 3rd, but if I have to complete it on the 4th, or even the 5th - so be it!

I would love to be able to give not just cheers, but as much money as possible to help the staff at the 3 NHS units indicated. Maybe £700 to each might be used to make them smile even more in their working environments in some way.

Please help - by making a donation, walk along all or part of the route with me and remember not just my family's stories, but your own as well.
To all of you I sing and shout a thank you then give a huge cheer!

Hip, Hip, Hurray to you all too!
