Three special cats, three big bills – we need a hand!

Donation protected
Our little rescue for disabled and difficult cats is somehow still going, despite more homeless and abandoned cats than ever before (seriously, ask any shelter, it's bad out there!) and you know, the impending death of the economy and all.

But when you specialise in needy moggies, there's always a chance something big and expensive will land in your lap. Or, as is the case this month, THREE big expensive somethings.

In short, Rupert, Widget and Scooter all urgently need vet attention, and we really need your help to make that happen. As ever -- and if you've been following me for a while, you hopefully know this already -- I've done absolutely everything I can to cover expenses without asking for extra help, but I just have no way to swing these three procedures.

Here's what I need help with:

Rupert: A surprisingly huge, handsome 7-year-old orange moggy who was hit by a car at his previous home and was not taken to the vet. As a result, he has a very wonky smile, and although this can no longer be fixed because it's healed that way (and isn't causing him any problems), he does have some very painful damage to the rest of his teeth that needs urgent attention.

Rupert has a wonderful home to go to as soon as his dental work is done -- the vets estimate this will cost £1,045.71.

Scooter: you might remember Scoots McGoots as one of the difficult cases that lives permanently at Moggy Manor. She's a bengal surrendered to us at 10 weeks because of a spinal deformity that affects her back legs, meaning she couldn't be sold by her breeder as planned. She's now 2 years old, and while we managed to get her first spinal scan covered by a very kind individual, since she's now older and physically bigger she needs another one to see whether her spine has shifted, if it's still stable, and whether she needs any treatment yet.

The estimate we've been given for this is £2,531.76, which includes a discount that Dovecote Vet Hospital have very kindly offered on the usual price of £3k+.

Widget: this beautiful boy was given to us by a man who claimed he was a 5-month old kitten (we were hoping he'd be a friend for our wobbly kitten, Sprout). Our vet found that he's actually a fully-grown male, just very small (probably due to malnutrition) and with a mouthful of severely infected teeth which need to come out urgently. They estimate this will cost £992.08.

Widget's teeth are currently causing him pain and he dribbles blood, but in spite of all this he's a sweet and playful boy who -- judging by how filthy he was -- we don't think has ever lived indoors before. He's doing really well now (and needs a home if anyone out there might like to meet him!).

Help us book them in

We can't book these moggies in for treatment until we know we can pay for it, so if we don't reach our goal for all three, I'll book them in order of severity: Widget first as his teeth are the most painful, then Rupert, then Scooter.

If you'd like to see the vet estimates as proof of what we need the money for, please just ask.

If by some miracle we go over our goal, any excess will go to helping the many, many (dear lord so many) wonky cats in our care at the moment. We currently have: 8 permanent cats, 2 unwell kittens, 2 new wobblers, a very pregnant stray, a mum with three tiny babies, and a whole load of tricky-but-worth-it cases.

If you’re able to chip in, even a few pounds, you’ll be helping us give Rupert, Widget, and Scooter the best possible chance to be healthy, happy, and most importantly loved and wanted cats. And if you can’t donate but still want to help, please share this fundraiser with friends, relatives, and your favourite land barons.

As always, thank you for caring about the wonky and wonderful cats we love. I quite literally couldn't do it without you.
