Latest Update March 2017: We adopted!!!
Update Jan 2016:
As I am sure many of you have read, we won our case. The jury trial ended up taking two weeks instead of one, but it was well worth it. Some of you have asked for a way to support us still so we have updated this link. The lawyer is giving us a discount and letting us pay her without interest so that is good news!

Help us raise $5000 for the trial!
Posted on December 15, 2015
Dear friends, we recently were able to raise $2500 (thanks to the amazing generosity of our friends and family) in order to intervene in our foster children’s court case. This made us a party in the case (in addition to the biological parents, the kids, and the state) so that we can more effectively advocate for what we believe to be the best interest of our children.
In addition, thanks to the money shared with us, we were able to participate in mediation as an interested party. This occurred last week, and while sadly there was no resolution found during mediation that would keep the girls safe and all parties could agree to, Sarah and I were able to be present and participate; Sarah did an amazing job advocating for the girls and reminding all the lawyers and caseworkers involved of the facts of the case, the importance of the safety of the girls, and just helped to keep everyone focused on their best interest. Sometimes it seems like with everyone else’s immense caseloads, just having us there to remind everyone of what has happened in the case so far keeps them on track for good decision making. It sometimes seems that important information gets forgotten so easily!
We love our lawyer, she is obviously passionate about the safety and well-being of children, and she is an adoptive mom herself. She has been amazing, and she is so knowledgeable about all the ins and outs of this branch of family law that we would have no idea about. Also, she is charging us less than any of the others that we could have used. We have been so thankful to have her help advocating for the girls in a recent court date, in deposition (where the biological parents’ lawyer asked us a ton of questions looking for weakness), and in mediation. Thanks to all of y’all who sacrificed to share your money with us so that we could make it this far!
Now trial is upcoming, and we must pay a $5000 down payment in order to fight for our girls in this phase. Thanks to your generosity, we have already raised 501.80. It will be a multi-day jury trial. Would you please consider sharing with us?
Would you also consider sending us some encouragement? All of the uncertainty is very difficult to cope with. It’s very difficult not to worry for the safety of the children who we have been so privileged to take care of for the last year. Please pray for us, call us up, text us, send us a letter, we’re struggling but we have made it this far thanks to God and our loving community of family and friends.
Trial is set for January 19th.
Thanks for reading. Peace on Earth, Merry Christmas, and God bless you and yours.
Love,
Dan and Sarah K
